Byron Scott Suggests LeBron James as Potential Lakers Head Coach

As the Los Angeles Lakers launch the search of a new head coach following dismissal of Darvin Ham and the whole coaching staff, three-time NBA champion Byron Scott proposes LeBron James for the vacancy.

The Lakers legend remarked how James does not trust his coaches, suggesting that the solution to that would if the superstar became a player/coach himself.

“My recommendation for the next Lakers coach, and not out of the eight or nine names that I’ve heard, his name wasn’t on there, is to make LeBron the coach,” Scott said on Undisputed.

“It’s obvious to me, at least, that he’s making a lot of decisions that are going on in this organization, from a coaching standpoint to a player standpoint. So if you’re going to allow him to make those decisions, sit on the bench and make those decisions as well. Be the head coach,” he added.

Scott also found the report that former player JJ Redick, who is co-hosting the new Mind The Game podcast with James, amusing.

“You obviously have to get somebody that LeBron is comfortable with from the head coaching standpoint. The last name I’ve heard was JJ Redick. I started laughing. Well, now they got a podcast together, so y’all comfortable, y’all buddy-buddy, so now his name is on the list,” Scott said.

“As far as I’m concerned, the only person LeBron is going to trust is himself. And since you’re already making a lot of those decisions anyway, why not put him in that seat?” Scott wondered.

Scott agreed with co-host Skip Bayless that a scapegoat would be needed besides James, implying that the superstar is deferring blame to others.

“You have to have a scapegoat in that seat as they’ve had for the last four years,” Scott said before giving two recent examples. “You have Frank Vogel, who wins a championship with them. The next year, boom, he’s gone. Darvin Ham, who goes to the Western Conference Finals last year, this year, boom, he’s gone. So what are you looking for? What do you need as a head coach to get this team to the next level?”
