Caleb Sweeney Given Second Trial at Manchester United – Latest News and Transfer Updates

Chido Obi-Martin arrives for medical ahead of signing for Man United - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have picked up their chase for Caleb Sweeney by inviting him for a second trial.

The youngster already spent time at Carrington in the summer and has recently returned for further trials.

At just 15 years old, Sweeney has already been in and around the first team at his current club Larne FC, recently being named to the bench for an Irish League Cup match.

Sweeney took to Instragram to share on his stories the number 8 shirt he was given to wear at the weekend.

As well as playing at club level, Sweeney has been capped for Northern Ireland at u16s level, recently featuring in friendlies against Finland and Estonia.

Described as a defensive midfielder with excellent two-footedness, Sweeney is seen by some youth followers as one of the best in his age group.

No permanent deal is done yet, but the fact Sweeney has returned to Carrington for another trial in such a short period of time indicates the United staff have been truly impressed and are keen to have him involved.

Turning 16 in January, if signed Sweeney would join a strong group of players recruited to the academy this season.

Recent signings Samuel Lusale and Chido Obi-Martin made their u18s debuts at the weekend away to Sunderland.

Ending in an exciting 4-3 win to United, Lusale made his mark known with a dangerous cross that was dropped by the keeper for Bendito Mantato to finish off for United’s second of the match.

Other summer signings James Overy and Sekou Kone are awaiting their debuts in the red of United.

Having won the treble last season, United’s u18s are continuing to look strong this season, with a perfect six wins from six in the league so far. They could get even stronger with the potential addition of Caleb Sweeney.
