Cameron Carter-Vickers signs new, long-term Celtic contract

Cameron Carter-Vickers has committed his long-term future to Scottish side Celtic.

Carter-Vickers signed a new deal with the Scottish Premiership leaders until 2029, the club announced Friday. An unnamed Qatari side made a late push to acquire Carter-Vickers, a source close to the player confirmed to SBI, but the 26-year-old committed himself to Celtic instead.

“I am really delighted to sign this new contract with Celtic,” Carter-Vickers said in a club interview. “I have loved everything about the club from day one and I am so pleased to have been part of some real successful times across the last few years. You always play the game to win, and being part of some great winning moments with Celtic has been really big for me, a real honor.

“I have had a great welcome and support from the Celtic fans ever since I came here,” he added. “We all know the love and passion our fans have for the club, there is nothing better than playing at a packed Celtic Park and I am delighted to be playing my football here. I have really enjoyed working with the Manager, the staff and great team-mates and we will all be doing everything we can to bring our fans more and more success over the next few years.”

Carter-Vickers has been immaculate for Celtic since originally joining the club on loan from Tottenham in 2021. He has totaled 101 combined appearances for the reigning SPFL champions, lifting two league titles, and three domestic cups over two seasons.

The U.S. men’s national team centerback has earned SPFL Best XI honors in 2022 and 2023. His productive seasons at Celtic have helped Carter-Vickers fight his way back into the USMNT picture over the last two years as well.

“This is great news for us all that Cameron has extended his contract with the club,” Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said.

“He has been an absolute rock for us since he joined the club and has played to such a high standard so regularly, week in, week out,” Rodgers added. “He has been such a pillar of strength in our defense and a real leader in the team, I know he is held in such high regard, too, by his teammates.”

Celtic had been without Carter-Vickers for the past three matches due to hamstring injury, but the American is set to return to action this weekend against Ross County.
