Tennis Canada has announced that the highly anticipated Davis Cup Qualifiers first round tie between Canada and Brazil will be held at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver on February 6-7, 2026.
This matchup will determine which team progresses to the second round of the Qualifiers scheduled for September 2026. Canadian team captain Frank Dancevic expressed excitement about the event returning to Vancouver, highlighting the significance of the venue and the enthusiastic support from local fans. “It’s been over 10 years since we last played a tie in Vancouver,” noted Dancevic. “We know the fans out there will turn up and play a huge part in the outcome against Brazil.”
The last Davis Cup tie hosted by Canada in Vancouver was against Japan in March 2015, where Canada triumphed 3-2. Key victories in that tie came from Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil, the latter securing the clinching match. Pospisil also excelled in doubles alongside Daniel Nestor, showcasing the strong home advantage for Canada.
Ranked ninth in the world, Canada will look to extend their impressive home record to 11 victories in their last 13 ties. The Brazilian team sits at 18th in the rankings, presenting a compelling challenge. Historically, Brazil edged Canada in their last Davis Cup encounter in 2007, winning 3-1 during the Group I Americas stage, with Dancevic contributing as one of the players in that matchup.
Canada earned their spot in this upcoming qualifier with a commanding 4-0 win against Israel in the World Group I last September. The final lineup for both teams will be confirmed in January, and the competition schedule will involve two singles matches on the first day, followed by a doubles match and two additional singles matches on the second day.
This event is poised to not only revive competitive international tennis in Vancouver but also to strengthen the sport’s community presence in British Columbia. Fans eagerly await the chance to support their nation as they aim for success against Brazil in what promises to be an exciting and pivotal tie.
