Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs Over Frances Tiafoe to Claim Victory in the 2025 Battle of Legends

Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs Over Frances Tiafoe to Claim Victory in the 2025 Battle of Legends

Carlos Alcaraz won the 2025 Battle of Legends after beating Frances Tiafoe in Puerto Rico.

Alcaraz and Tiafoe are two players who tennis fans like to watch the most. They are both incredibly entertaining, which is why they are the perfect candidates for any exhibition event or match.

As the 2025 Indian Wells Open approaches, tennis players have shifted closer to the United States. Some competed at the ATP 500 event in Acapulco, Mexico, while others began preparing directly in Indian Wells without any tournaments beforehand.

Additionally, there were those who signed up to play exhibitions. Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz were set for the MGM Rewards Slam in Las Vegas, but that exhibition was canceled. However, the women’s match in Las Vegas still took place, with Aryna Sabalenka defeating Naomi Osaka.

The following day, tennis fans in Puerto Rico enjoyed some exhibition tennis as well. The event was called the “Battle of Legends,” organized by former WTA player Monica Puig.

Alcaraz and Tiafoe took the court with big smiles, and it quickly became clear that fans would be treated to an entertaining match, as both players delivered impressive shots.

The Spaniard started strong, holding his serve and breaking Tiafoe’s to lead 4-2 in the opening set. It was a promising start for the four-time Grand Slam champion.

Both players continued to produce spectacular rallies, and Tiafoe, trailing 2-4, managed to break back and equalize at 4-4, aided by a fortunate net cord on break point.

Yet, Alcaraz regained control, adding serve and volley to his strategy. After a series of exceptional returns on Tiafoe’s serve, he broke once more to take the first set 6-4.

Tiafoe, however, was determined to compete and was the only player to break in the second set, doing so twice. The American clinched the set 6-3, forcing a decider.

Unlike many exhibitions where a super tie-break is played for the third set, the 2025 Battle of Legends featured a full set. Alcaraz broke Tiafoe’s serve in the first game of the third set, and both players held serve until Tiafoe found himself down 3-5.

Facing more break points under pressure, Tiafoe double-faulted on the match point, allowing Alcaraz to seal the victory 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, clinching the 2025 Battle of Legends exhibition in Puerto Rico.
