Carragher Slams Liverpool's Tactics Involving Salah: A Closer Look at the Strategyn

Salah’s Role Under Scrutiny Amid Liverpool Struggles

Jamie Carragher, a former defender for Liverpool, has raised concerns regarding Mohamed Salah’s position in the team, suggesting that the time has come for the Egyptian forward to be benched. Carragher’s remarks follow a season marked by underwhelming performances from Salah, who has only netted four goals in the league so far, despite a standout last season that included winning the Premier League and signing a new contract over the summer.

Wayne Rooney, the former Manchester United striker, echoed Carragher’s sentiments, indicating that Salah’s lack of defensive contribution has put pressure on right-back Conor Bradley. This was particularly evident during Liverpool’s recent 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

“Every player needs to pull their weight, and teams have been targeting Liverpool down the right this season,” Rooney stated on The Overlap. “Salah isn’t tracking back, which is a significant concern for the team, especially with Bradley needing assistance.” He emphasized that the situation was exploited by Manchester City, leaving Bradley vulnerable.

Carragher expressed doubts about Salah, who has recently been the team’s focal point, and questioned his starting role under coach Arne Slot. “If your attacking players aren’t scoring and you’re leaving your team exposed defensively, you’re not gaining anything from this tactic of having Mo Salah stay upfront,” Carragher remarked. “He needs to contribute defensively or the team should consider different options. I believe it’s time to reassess Salah’s role as a guaranteed starter, especially in away matches.”
