Carter-Vickers leads Celtic to Scottish Cup Final

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Celtic advance to Scottish Cup Final

American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to compete for another trophy in Scotland this May.

Carter-Vickers and Celtic secured a spot in the Scottish Cup Final on May 25th after a 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Aberdeen, following a thrilling 3-3 draw in regular time. The U.S. men’s national team centerback played the full match in Brendan Rodgers’ defensive line.

Aberdeen took an early lead with Bojan Miovski’s goal in the second minute, but Celtic responded with Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn’s equalizer in the 21st minute.

James Forrest then put Celtic ahead 2-1 in the 63rd minute, only for Aberdeen to equalize late with Ester Sokler’s goal in the 90th minute, sending the match into extra time at Hampden Park.

Matt O’Riley gave Celtic a 3-2 lead in the first half of extra time, but Aberdeen once again leveled the score with Angus MacDonald converting Junior Hoilett’s pass. However, Aberdeen’s Ryan Duncan and Killian Phillips missed their spot kicks, allowing Celtic to advance to their second consecutive Scottish Cup Final.

Fellow American Dante Polvara played 79 minutes in the defeat for Aberdeen, who are now focused on avoiding relegation from the SPFL.

Carter-Vickers and Celtic are currently leading the league as they approach the final five matches of the SPFL season.
