Caution Urged as England Faces Slovakia in EURO 2024 Round of 16

England In EURO 2024

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy has issued a strong warning to Gareth Southgate’s England team ahead of their EURO 2024 Round-of-16 clash with Slovakia. Cundy believes that despite being the favorites, England will face a tough challenge from Slovakia.

England’s Path to EURO 2024 Final

England did not meet expectations in their Group C games. They won 1-0 against Serbia in the first match, drew 1-1 with Denmark in the second, and ended with a goalless draw against Slovenia. Despite their underwhelming performances, England topped the group comfortably with five points, setting up a Round-of-16 encounter with Slovakia.

If they defeat Sokoli on Sunday (June 30), they will go against the winners of Switzerland vs Italy on July 6. For the semi-finals, they will face the winner among Romania, Netherlands, Austria, or Turkey. The other half of the draw includes strong teams like Germany, Portugal, France, Belgium, and Spain, making the journey potentially tougher for England.

Jason Cundy’s Advice to Three Lions Against Slovakia

Fans are optimistic about England’s chances of reaching their second consecutive European Championship final. However, Cundy warns against complacency, stating that the match against Slovakia will be a challenge.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said:

I’ve watched all of Slovakia’s games, and they scored first in each one. They are a high press, high intensity, and well-organized team. In the second half against Belgium, they got lucky and won 1-0.

In the 2-1 loss to Ukraine, they were excellent in the first half but struggled in the second. It’s a game we can win, but Slovakia will not make it easy. They won’t just sit back; they will come at us.

Cundy added:

This match won’t be a walk in the park as some might think.

Slovakia caused a major upset in EURO 2024 by defeating Belgium 1-0 in their first match. However, they failed to win their next two games and finished third in the group with four points.
