Celine Simunyu set to make history at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

Historic day as Celine Simunyu is set to become the first Irish female player to be awarded a wildcard at a WTA event.

Celine has been selected as a Wild Card for qualifying for the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship.

This is a great opportunity for the young Irish player to take part in such a major event. She will take on Cristina Bucsa, ranked 61 in the world.

We wish Celine the best of luck in her qualification tie today.

Many thanks to Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman Dubai Duty Free, and Mr Salah Tahlak, Tournament Director and Joint COO, for being very supportive of Irish tennis over the years by making Wild Cards available.
