The 2024 PGA Tour season has come to a close, and the statistics have been compiled to rank the most challenging courses played over the past eight months. The top three courses on the list hosted major championships, with Pinehurst No. 2, Royal Troon, and Augusta National leading the way.
Pinehurst No. 2 proved to be a stern test at the U.S. Open, playing to a scoring average of 70.891 (+2.891) on its 7,548-yard layout. Royal Troon, the venue for the Open Championship, had a scoring average of 73.851 (+2.851) on its 7,385-yard course. Augusta National, home of the Masters Tournament, also presented a tough challenge in 2024, playing to a scoring average of 73.906 (+1.906) on its 7,555-yard layout.
Other notable courses that proved to be difficult for the pros included Muirfield Village Golf Club, Colonial Country Club, Quail Hollow Club, and TPC San Antonio. These courses all played more than one shot over par on average during the 2024 season.
