Former LTA President Charles Trippe MBE Passes Away at 81

Charles Trippe MBE, a former LTA President, passed away on the 22nd of October at the age of 81, as announced by Roehampton on their official website.

Charles served as President of the LTA from 2003-2005, with his involvement in the sport starting long before that, according to the LTA statement.

Mr. Trippe graduated from Nottingham University Business School in 1965 with a degree in Industrial Economics.

A dedicated tennis enthusiast and skilled player, he represented Great Britain at the 1965 World Student Games in Budapest and played for his county at senior level for 22 years.

His illustrious career serving the sport began in 1991 when he joined the LTA Council representing Hampshire & Isle of Wight LTA. In 1998, he assumed the role of Honorary Treasurer of the LTA, later becoming Deputy President from 2000-2002.

On September 20, 2004, Charles and then LTA Performance Director David Felgate were part of the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Tennis Centre, eventually opened by HM Queen Elizabeth in 2007.

From 2005 to 2009, Mr. Trippe also served on the International Tennis Federation Board (ITF) and held positions as Vice President and Chairman of the ITF Seniors and Constitutional Committees. He continued his involvement by joining the ITF Davis Cup Committee in 2009 and the Tennis Foundation Board of Trustees as Honorary Treasurer in January 2011.

During his two decades on the LTA Council, Charles served on various Boards and Committees, including the LTA Main Board, National Tennis Development Divisional Board, ITF Board of Directors, and many more.

At the County level, Mr. Trippe held key positions in Hampshire & Isle of Wight LTA, such as Chairman and County Treasurer, showcasing his commitment to the local tennis community.

Charles Trippe’s significant contributions to the sport were recognized with an MBE in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for services to tennis.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, and daughter Katherine.
