Chelsea Close to Signing USMNT’s Caleb Wiley

Report: Chelsea nearing deal to acquire USMNT's Caleb Wiley


Gabriel Slonina is reportedly set to have another a second American teammate at Chelsea.

Atlanta United left back Caleb Wiley is nearing a deal to join the English Premier League club in a permanent deal, The Athletic reported. Wiley would be loaned to French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg to earn early minutes in Europe.

The Five Stripes would receive a $10.9 million fee for Wiley and the 19-year-old would sign a contract until June 2031, according to the report.

Wiley was recently named to the U.S. men’s Olympic team on Monday ahead of the upcoming Summer Olympics. He debuted for the USMNT last year and overall has earned two caps.

A 5-feet-10 defender, Wiley debuted for Atlanta United in 2022 and has since totaled 80 MLS appearances, six goals, and eight assists. He has started in all 21 of his league appearances in 2024.

Wiley would become the latest Five Stripes player sold in recent weeks, joining Giorgos Giakoumakis and Thiago Almada on the way out of Atlanta.

Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League last season while Strasbourg finished 13th in Ligue 1.
