Chelsea Held to Draw by FC Twente in Women’s Champions League Opener
In their first match of the Women’s Champions League, Chelsea faced a frustrating 1-1 draw against FC Twente. The match took place on October 14, 2025.
After the game, Chelsea’s head coach, Sonia Bompastor, urged her players to “kill the hope” of Paris FC ahead of their upcoming clash on Wednesday. The Women’s Super League champions have struggled in front of goal recently, managing only two goals from open play in their previous three matches, including a lackluster draw with Twente.
On Sunday, Chelsea secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Tottenham, thanks to a long-range effort from Keira Walsh, but they dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United the weekend prior.
This season, Chelsea has found the net more than once in only three of their seven competitive fixtures. “When I assess our performance, I believe we are creating numerous opportunities, which is crucial,” Bompastor commented. “Looking at the statistics from our last six games shows we excel in possession and frequently advance the ball into attacking positions. However, scoring remains the toughest challenge in football. We must maintain our confidence and keep pushing ourselves. Being clinical is essential to dampening the opposition’s spirits early on.”
Meanwhile, on the same day, Barcelona, last season’s runners-up, will strive for a second consecutive win as they take on Roma, who suffered a heavy loss to Real Madrid in their opener of the tournament. Lyon, with eight Champions League titles, will host Austria’s St. Polten, while Twente looks to capitalize on their draw with Chelsea against Leuven in Belgium. Valerenga will also face Wolfsburg at home.
