After a stellar month for the Ben Thomas’ Cheshire Phoenix, the Floridian floor general LaQuincy Rideau has scooped Molten Player of the Month honours for November – the second Phoenix player to take the award this season!
Rideau helped steer Cheshire to a 5-1 record in the British Basketball League Championship last month, behind averages of almost 10 points and 10 assists per game, demonstrating a dominant month as a multi-faceted playmaking threat for the Phoenix.
The 6’1” point guard started November with an all-action
performance in a derby day win on the road to Manchester Giants, where the Sky
Sports cameras captured an incredible 10-point, 14-assist, 7-steal, 6-rebound
performance that saw him flirt with a triple-double in a vital victory for his
side.
Wins over Surrey Scorchers (twice), Leicester Riders and Caledonia Gladiators followed later in the month for Cheshire with Rideau at the wheel of an up-tempo, unselfish offence that has taken the League by storm to start the season.
With December’s action well underway, the 27-year-old has shown
no signs of slowing down as he tipped off the month with the first
triple-double of the season – a 22-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance –
that caught the attention of none other than Los Angeles Clippers point guard
Russell Westbrook on the League’s social media channels.
Rideau saw off stiff competition from fellow floor general Jordan Johnson for November’s award, with the Cheshire man taking 35% of the vote compared to Newcastle’s ‘JJ’ who earned 32%, and the two rivals will face off at Ellesmere Port Sports Village later this month.
Reflecting on winning Player of the Month honours, Rideau said:
“To win player of the month is truly a blessing. I want thank my teammates and the coaching staff, but most importantly, the voters – you guys made this possible!”
Before then, though, the Phoenix get back to work on the hardwood on Sunday afternoon in Sheffield, facing the high-flying Sharks in a crunch fixture which you can watch live and for free on our YouTube channel.
