Welcome back to week nine of Justin and Favian’s Weekly MLS Awards, where SBI staff writers Justin Ruderman and Favian Renkel bring you a glimpse at the best of each week in MLS. Rivalries were renewed, and the MLS MVP race is heating up. Let’s discuss!

**Player of the Week**

*Justin Ruderman*: Chicho Arango (RSL) Lionel Messi’s name recognition may grab all the headlines, but it is Chicho Arango leading the MLS goalscoring charts through Matchday 10. Arango produced a brace and assist without needing a penalty to do it. He played a big part in the creation of RSL’s first goal, showcasing impressive performance throughout the game. Chicho Arango is leading the MLS MVP race with a league-leading ten goal contributions so far in 2024.

*Favian Renkel*: Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) The 36-year-old had a phenomenal game with two goals and an assist, continuing to defy the laws of aging. Lionel Messi wins my SBI Player of the Week vote as he is on pace to be the MLS MVP this season.

**Young Player of the Week**

*JR*: Gavin Beavers (RSL) With his first MLS clean sheet, Gavin Beaver showcased his potential in Real Salt Lake’s dominant win over the Chicago Fire. The 18-year-old had notable saves throughout the game, making a statement on the field.

*FR*: Tomas Aviles (Inter Miami) At just 20 years old, Avilés has shown the experience of a veteran in the Inter Miami backline. He consistently performs well in the starting 11, making crucial plays to secure victories for the team.

**Goal of the Week**

*JR*: Steven Moreira (Columbus Crew) Steven Moreira’s thunderbolt shot from 25 yards out into the upper corner was a standout goal of the week that secured a point for the Crew.

*FR*: Prince Owusu (Toronto FC) Prince Owusu’s remarkable goal impressed with his skill and performance, solidifying his position as a key player for Toronto FC.

**Team of the Week**

*JR*: Real Salt Lake RSL’s overall team performance, led by players like Chicho Arango and Gavin Beavers, earned them a well-deserved nomination for Team of the Week. Their impressive start to the season continued with a dominant win over the Chicago Fire.

*FR*: Vancouver Whitecaps The Whitecaps’ decisive 2-0 victory over Seattle showcased their strength as one of the best teams in MLS this season, led by coach Vanni Sartini.
