The Kansas City Chiefs managed to win a third Super Bowl in five years last season despite having a notable dropoff in production from their wide receiver group, so it was no surprise when upgrading at WR became a major focus this offseason.
Signing Marquise Brown in free agency certainly helped, and the position was addressed in the draft as well, although their top pick has some concerns about his weight that many are looking to see him address.
The Chiefs took Xavier Worthy out of Texas with the 28th overall pick to add plenty of speed to their offense, but Worthy isn’t concerned about only weighing 172 pounds, saying “I feel like just understanding your strengths and weaknesses, I feel that’s the big thing in the league.”

Worthy also added he won’t “obviously try go hit a 215-pound linebacker” and that there’s value in “just understanding your way.”
Worthy set the NFL Combine record with his 4.21 40-yard dash, and surely he’ll gain a few pounds now that he’s in the NFL, but it shouldn’t be a major cause for concern.
DeVonta Smith had similar concerns when he was drafted at 170 pounds, and he has missed just one game in his first three years.
Every receiver needs to learn how to protect themselves regardless of their size, and plenty of larger receivers get hurt as well, so there’s not much of a correlation between small stature and increased injury risk.
If the Chiefs aren’t concerned about Worthy’s weight, fans shouldn’t be concerned either.
