The New Year is right around the corner, and with it comes January Camp! The USMNT will convene in January before they play Slovenia on Saturday, January 20th in San Antonio.
As always, Camp Cupcake is very limited in which players can be selected, as most leagues worldwide are busy playing club matches, and the camp does not take place during a FIFA international window, when clubs are mandated to release players for international duty. Therefore, while it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, MLS-based players are the ones most likely to be called in.
Here’s what USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter said when the camp was announced back in November:
“This is an opportunity for us to identify and work with the next generation of players who have the potential to make an impact on our program.
“With the World Cup coming to the United States in 2026, we have placed a huge priority on getting as many players as possible experience in important competitions.
“Between the Olympics, Concacaf Nations League and Copa America, the chances are there for players to make a statement, and for many of them the game in San Antonio can be an important first step.”

Benja Cremaschi got to take part in a remarkable moment of Lionel Messi brilliance against the Red Bulls (below). Cremaschi also scored the winning penalty against FC Dallas in Leagues Cup.
Not only did Lucho Acosta win the MLS MVP award, but he also won the Player of the Month twice – in July (highlights) and again in September.
Jesús Ferreira scored this 89th-minute winner away at Austin FC.
Duncan McGuire scored probably the best goal from any American in MLS this season with this unreal take against Toronto FC:
