There have been some surprises to start the 2024 NFL regular season, and right now, it is hard to tell who is a legitimate Super Bowl contender, other than the two-time defending world champion Kansas City Chiefs.

One surprise has been the New Orleans Saints, a team that was picked to win the NFC South last season but won nine games and narrowly missed out on the division title.

People were counting them out when this season began, but they’re now 2-0 after blowout wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys.

Quarterback Derek Carr has played outstanding football to start the year, and it led Chris Broussard to say on Fox Sports 1’s “First Things First” that right now, Carr would be his MVP.

Carr is currently leading the NFL in passing touchdowns (five), passer rating and QBR, and thanks in large part to him, the Saints are leading the league in scoring.

They put up 47 points in Week 1, and on Sunday, they posted 44 points against a Cowboys team that has plenty of talent on defense.

A big beneficiary of Carr’s great play has been wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who has seven catches for 269 yards and two touchdowns through two games, including 96 yards on just four catches versus Dallas.

However, New Orleans will be put to a big test over the next few weeks, as they will host the Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday and visit the Atlanta Falcons the following weekend.

Then on Oct. 7, they will play the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on “Monday Night Football.”
