During the 2023 NFL regular season, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs looked like a flawed football team, as they were lacking at the wide receiver position and were also dealing with the off-the-field distraction of having pop star Taylor Swift, girlfriend of star tight end Travis Kelce, in the stands almost every week.

The Chiefs looked like a team that was ready to fall apart and in for an early end to their season, with many predicting they’d get bounced from the NFL playoffs by one of the better teams in the AFC, like the Buffalo Bills or Baltimore Ravens.

However, even though the Chiefs were lacking at receiver and Kelce was having a down year by his standards, Kansas City was able to endure and really turned it on during the postseason.

Patrick Mahomes and company went on to win the first three rounds of the playoffs against elite teams in their conference and then took down the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl in overtime to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Tom Brady’s New England Patriots.

With the Chiefs again being the cream of the crop in the NFL, Chris Broussard of FOX Sports argues that Mahomes should be the favorite to win NFL MVP heading into the season, via “First Things First.”

“If I’m a knockout artist boxer and I win decisions, sure, I’m winning, but it’s not as fun. That’s where Patrick Mahomes is at. … It’s going to be a light show. He’s coming out to put up numbers,” Broussard said.

With no quarterback yet to surpass Mahomes as arguably the best player in the league at his position, Broussard makes a good point, especially with the Chiefs having the chance to make history in 2024.

If the Chiefs can come out on top again next season, they’ll be the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
