Chris Paul Addresses Controversial Referee Comment about His Behavior

Paul

Chris Paul has responded to former NBA referee Bill Spooner claims that CP3 was “one of the biggest assholes” he ever dealt with.

In case you missed it, Spooner didn’t hold back when talking about the Point God recently.

“I’m going to tell you, and I know you are recording me, but I get asked all the time: ‘Who are some of the tough guys, some of the bad guys?’” Spooner told The Athletic. “And when I tell them that Chris Paul, in my 32 years in the league, was one of the biggest assholes I ever dealt with, they say, ‘Not Rasheed Wallace … or da-da-da?’ Nope. Nothing like (Paul). And they are like, ‘Oh, he seems like such a nice guy.’ And I say, ‘Yeah, he’s a great image cultivator.’”

Paul appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and had the perfect response to what Spooner said.

“There’s probably a lot more [referees] that feel like that,” Paul told McAfee. “That ref, I had to look him up. … He was in the league for a long time, and you probably can guess who one of his homeboys is.

“He was probably mad that I didn’t put him in that last State Farm commercial.”

Paul speaks of Spooner’s ‘homeboy’, which would no doubt be his nemesis and current NBA referee Scott Foster.

The pair have a long history of animosity and Foster has a far better winning record in the playoffs against Paul than the Warriors guard does against Foster.

No doubt the two will have some more heated battles in the 2024-25 season.
