Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is a doubt to play for Denmark in their Round of 16 Euro 2024 clash against Germany later today.
Eriksen has been a standout player for his country in their Euros campaign so far with his impressive performances helping the side make it out of the group.
Denmark drew all their group-stage clashes vs. Slovenia, England and Serbia. In all three matches, Eriksen pulled the strings in the middle of the park.
However, according to NRK (via SportWitness) who have covered comments from Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand, there are now serious concerns over Eriksen ahead of their meeting vs. Germany at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.
The 32-year-old missed training on Friday after picking up a stomach problem.
It’s understood that the player was asked to stay away from the group session amidst fears that he may have caught a bug. International teammate Thomas Delaney had also reported not feeling too well just before Eriksen.
De Rød-Hvide made arrangements for Eriksen to travel to Signal Iduna Park on his own in an effort to avoid the possibility of the bug spreading within the camp in case it’s contagious.
As per Hjulmand, he and his coaching staff still retain hope that Eriksen will be fully fit and available for selection against Julian Nagelsmann’s men.
Hjulmand said about the United star, “Christian woke up with a little rumbling in his stomach, and we had the same with Thomas Delaney earlier.”
“To be sure that nothing will develop, we asked him not to train.”
“Fortunately, he is doing better, so it has not gone in the wrong direction, as it did with Delaney.”
“So, we expect him to recover soon, and that he is ready for tomorrow. That is what we expect.”
Denmark vs. Germany is set to kick off at 20:00 BST.
