Christian Pulisic’s impressive run of form is coming at the best time for the U.S. men’s national team.
Pulisic scored on Sunday for the fourth-straight match as AC Milan defeated Hellas Verona 3-1 in Serie A play. It marked Pulisic’s 20th goal contribution this season (12 goals, eight assists) across all competitions.
Theo Hernandez’s 44th minute goal boosted the Rossoneri in front for a 1-0 lead before Pulisic extended AC Milan’s lead early in the second half.
Pulisic raced into the Hellas Verona box and scored off Noah Okafor’s rebound for a 2-0 AC Milan lead. Okafor’s original shot was saved but Pulisic made no mistake on the rebound.
Tijjani Noslin cut the Verona deficit in half after the hour mark but Samuel Chukwueze would reclaim AC Milan’s 3-1 lead before the final whistle.
Pulisic won four duels, hit the crossbar once, and created two offensive opportunities. He also received praise from Pioli on his ability to adapt to a new league following several seasons in the English Premier League.
“It looks to me that players from the premier league are immediately ready,” Pioli said in a club interview. “Mentally, tactically, technically, and physically. Immediately ready to take on our league.
“Look at how [midfielder Fikayo] Tomori perofrmed when he arrived, now we see Pulisic and [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek. Sometimes it takes players time to adjust when coming from other leagues and much of it can be from a player’s past, but we’re talking about Pulisic, who I think has top-level intelligence, quality, and intensity.”
AC Milan sits second in the Serie A table heading into the March international break. Pulisic will now try and carry his strong run of form into USMNT duty, with the Americans seeking their third-straight CONCACAF Nations League title.
