Chucky Lozano Expresses Regret Following Controversial Incident in San Diegon

Chucky Lozano Apologizes for Locker Room Incident

Hirving “Chucky” Lozano, a player for San Diego FC, issued a public apology on Friday following a locker room altercation. He acknowledged that his reaction was not appropriate.

The Mexican international expressed his feelings through an Instagram post: “I am passionate and competitive, always striving to give my all for the team. However, sometimes this intensity can lead to responses that do not reflect my true character or the respect I have for others. I acknowledge my mistake, have taken responsibility, and am moving on.”

Lozano continued, “What truly matters to me is my growth—both as a player and a person. I am committed to learning, improving, and positively contributing to my team.” He emphasized his focus on future goals and expressed pride in being part of San Diego FC’s journey.

Since signing as the club’s first designated player last year, Lozano missed San Diego’s last regular-season match against the Portland Timbers on October 18.

Head coach Mikey Varas briefly commented on the situation, mentioning that they were addressing an internal matter. According to reports, Lozano became involved in a verbal confrontation in the locker room after being substituted during a game against the Houston Dynamo earlier this month.

When asked for confirmation, Varas stated, “We’re handling the situation internally. Ultimately, Hirving is actively participating in training, putting in hard work, and is fully committed to rejoining the team. We’re dedicated to supporting him during this process.”

San Diego FC is set to make its MLS playoff debut on Sunday night as they host the Portland Timbers in the first match of their best-of-three first-round series. Varas did not confirm whether Lozano, who has tallied nine goals and ten assists in his inaugural MLS season, would participate in the upcoming game, stating, “The decision will be made later in the week, and his commitment and interactions will play a key role in that outcome.”

The expansion club made headlines this season by breaking MLS records for the most wins and points accumulated by a first-year team, finishing at the top of the Western Conference with 63 points.
