New Orleans Pelicans guard CJ McCollum has come to the defense of teammate Zion Williamson, who has faced substantial criticism regarding his conditioning.
Recent comments from NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, along with sports analyst Stephen A. Smith and Zion’s former teammate JJ Redick, have pointed out concerns about Williamson being overweight and not in optimal shape.
In response to the criticism, McCollum offered a supportive perspective, stating, “They don’t talk about players that aren’t good… If he was just another guy, no one would really care, and I think that’s a sign of his greatness… He’s headed in a good direction.”
This season Williamson is averaging 22.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 31 minutes per game.
