The San Francisco 49ers came within one half of beating the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, but unfortunately couldn’t get the job done in overtime.

It marked the second brutal loss in the Super Bowl for a 49ers team that has perennially been in the conversation for the best team in the NFL and will now need to prove themselves again during the 2024 NFL season.

With the core of their roster intact and head coach Kyle Shanahan still at the helm, San Francisco is expected to represent the NFC again in the Super Bowl.

However, there are a few question marks about the team, particularly the status of Brandon Aiyuk who recently requested a trade.

While the 49ers seem intent on keeping Aiyuk, they might be forced to deal him should he continue to be a distraction for the team.

With the ongoing Aiyuk situation and the risk of injury to their older veterans, Colin Cowherd picked San Francisco to finish second in the NFC West behind the Los Angeles Rams via The Herd with Colin Cowherd.

“Niners are good, but they’re an old, expensive football team. Watch out for injuries and the Brandon Aiyuk noise,” Cowherd said.

The Rams were the surprise team of the 2023 NFL season because they managed to make the postseason with a young and inexperienced roster.

While it’s hard to imagine San Francisco not winning the division again, Cowherd does make a good point that there are multiple things that could go wrong for them and cause them to miss out on the division title.
