The Indianapolis Colts are coming off a much-needed Week 4 victory where they took down the Pittsburgh Steelers who came into the matchup rocking an undefeated record.
It was a complete team effort from the Colts who finally unlocked their offense, though it came without Anthony Richardson who was forced out of the game due to an oblique injury.
Richardson came out of the game briefly after taking a hit, and then had to come out again after taking another shot on a designed quarterback run.
With Richardson sidelined, Indianapolis turned to veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to lead the charge and he did just that.
Flacco looked excellent throwing the football and got receivers like Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs going.
Ahead of the team’s Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, they declared Richardson as doubtful for the contest due to his oblique injury via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“Colts downgraded QB Anthony Richardson (oblique) to doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. Colts QB Joe Flacco is now in line to start Sunday,” Schefter reported.
There was some optimism that Richardson would be able to suit up as he turned in limited practices throughout the week, but instead it looks like the Colts will give him an extra week to recover.
Fortunately, Flacco should be able to get the job done against a Jacksonville team that has yet to pick up a win during the 2024 NFL season.
In an important AFC South showdown, Flacco has a shot to make up ground in the standings.
