It took them a while, but the Washington Commanders have finally found their guy.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, they’ve hired Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn to be their next coach.
Needless to say, this news was somewhat surprising, considering the fact that the Commanders were reportedly looking to make a big splash in the market.

Quinn does come with plenty of experience and pedigree around the league, but he also has that big stain of blowing a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl, not to mention how his defenses in Dallas crumbled in the playoffs.
Then again, you could also make a case for him being one of the best defensive coaches in the league, and he did turn the Cowboy’s defense into one of the best.
The Commanders have the most available cap space in the league entering the offseason, so he’s going to have plenty of money available to make moves and bolster a promising roster.
Quinn’s arrival could also put an end to Eric Bieniemy’s tenure in Maryland, as he was the second in charge behind only Ron Rivera, and his job as offensive coordinator wasn’t that remarkable this season.
With that in mind, it wouldn’t be crazy to see him returning to Kansas City to serve under Andy Reid.
As for the Cowboys, it’ll be interesting to see how they manage to make up for this crucial loss to Mike McCarthy’s coaching staff, especially at this point in the coach hiring cycle.
