LEB Gold top team – Coruna (26-8) managed to deliver another win on Sunday. This time they beat sixteenth ranked Castello (10-23) 95-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Castello. Coruna looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for Georgian Beqa Burjanadze (201-1994, agency: Octagon Europe) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 6 rebounds. American-Cuban swingman Yunio Barrueta (196-1993, college: Barry, agency: BIG) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners.
DR Congolese center Viny Okouo (214-1997) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for Castello. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Coruna maintains first place with a 26-8 record. Castello at the other side dropped to the fifteenth position with 23 games lost. They share it with Melilla. Coruna are looking forward to face Melilla (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Castello will play against Cantabria and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Valladolid. Thirteenth ranked Oviedo (13-20) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging higher-ranked Valladolid (18-15) 92-91 on Friday evening. American guard Demetric Horton (196, college: NC A&T, agency: Players Group) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) for the winners and Josep Perez chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Devin Schmidt (193-1994, college: Delta St.) with 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such a tough game. Oviedo maintains thirteenth place with a 13-20 record. Valladolid lost the sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 15 games lost. Oviedo will play against a higher-ranked Estudiantes (#4) in Madrid in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Valladolid will play on the road against Fuenlabrada (#10) in Madrid and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between 14th ranked Cantabria (11-22) and fifth-ranked Burgos T. (24-9) in Torrelavega on Saturday ended with the biggest point difference. Guests from Burgos outscored Cantabria 94-67. Rodrigo Seoane nailed 20 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Mirza Bulic came up with 12 points and 6 rebounds for Cantabria in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed playing the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Burgos T. maintains the fifth place with a 24-9 record. Cantabria lost the third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 22 games lost. Burgos T. will meet at home bottom-ranked Clavijo (#18) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Cantabria will play against Castello (#16) in Castellon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
