Draemland Gran Canaria (Liga Endesa) agreed terms with 29-year old American (has also Slovenian passport) power forward Mike Tobey (213cm-116kg-1994, college: Virginia) for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Tobey played last season at Crvena Zvezda in Serbian KLS league. In 30 Euroleague games he had 3.7ppg and 2.3rpg. He also played 26 games in ABA League where he recorded 8.8ppg and 5.1rpg.
Tobey was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Spanish Liga Endesa Honorable Mention back in 2018 and 2021.
The previous (2022-23) season he played at FC Barcelona in Spanish Liga Endesa. In 22 games, he averaged 4.0ppg and 3.2rpg. He helped them win the league title and they also played in the Supercup final. Tobey also played 31 games in Euroleague where he got 5.9ppg and 2.9rpg, contributing to his team ending the regular season in second position in the league and making it to the Euroleague Final Four.
Tobey has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He represented Slovenia at the Olympic Games in Tokyo (Japan) three years ago. Tobey’s team got to the Semifinals and his stats at that event were 6 games: 13.7ppg, Reb-1(10.5rpg), 2.5apg, FGP: 68.2%, 3PT: 38.5%, FT: 63.6%.
Tobey is quite an experienced player. He has also played professionally in the USA, Spain (Valencia and Lenovo Tenerife), NBA (Charlotte Hornets), and NBA G League (Greensboro Swarm).
Tobey graduated from the University of Virginia in 2016, and this will be his ninth season as a professional player. He was selected to Eurobasket.com All-Spanish Liga Endesa Honorable Mention back in 2018 and 2021.
