Aliaga Petkimspor Izmir (BSL) strengthened their roster with the addition of 27-year-old Colombian international 211cm center Jaime Echenique (college: Wichita State) for the 2024-25 season. Echenique played most recently at Promitheas in the Greek GBL league. In 25 games, he recorded 12.8ppg, 5.6rpg, and 1.1bpg last season, helping them make it to the Greek Cup Semifinals. Echenique also played 13 games in the Basketball Champions League, averaging 11.6ppg and 4.5rpg, contributing to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Echenique has been regularly called to the Colombian Senior National Team since 2020.
He is a very experienced player who has played professionally in Lithuania (Rytas), Spain (Gipuzkoa), NBA (Washington Wizards), NBA G League (Capital City Go-Go and Motor City Cruise), and NBA Summer League (Washington Wizards and Portland Trail Blazers).
Among his many awards, he played in the final of the Lithuanian League in 2023 and was voted to the Latinbasket.com All-FIBA AmeriCup Honorable Mention in 2022.
Echenique graduated from Wichita State in 2020, and this will be his fifth season in pro basketball. He also played for Trinity Valley Community College for 2 years.
