Copa América Final 2024: Argentina Battles Colombia in Thrilling Match – Live Updates and Analysis

Argentina vs. Colombia, 2024 Copa América Final: Match thread and discussion

It’s the match we’ve been waiting for. Tonight, Argentina is set to defend their title against Colombia in the Copa America final at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The two best teams in the tournament (and the two hypest fanbases) will collide with one walking off the field with the trophy and the other team thinking what could have been.

Argentina arrives at the final after a tournament that has seen them go unbeaten throughout the tournament. They opened up the entire tournament with a victory over Canada, and they went through the group stage with a perfect 3-0-0 record while not conceding a goal. In the quarterfinals, they took out Ecuador on penalties despite captain Lionel Messi missing his. They then beat Canada in the semifinals in what was a rematch of the opening match to arrive at this point. They have only conceded one goal at Copa America, and while their defense has been a bit shaky at times, they have not been broken. Their offense has also been off, but they’ve been able to score when it mattered and get past their opponents. They’re looking to defend their title to continue a trend that has occurred in Copa America since 1979:

Colombia arrives at the final as the hottest team on the planet, full stop. They haven’t lost in over 2 years and they continue to dominate in this tournament. They won Group D, going unbeaten against Costa Rica, Paraguay, and Brazil. In the quarterfinals, they absolutely decimated Panama before beating Uruguay 1-0 in the semifinals. James Rodriguez has found the fountain of youth in this tournament, leading his team with 6 assists and inspired play. It is because of him and the rest of Colombia’s playmakers that the team has a chance to lift the Copa América trophy for the first time since 2001. They want to close this chapter with a storybook ending.

It’s the Copa America Final…let’s go!
