Roman Andres Burruchaga takes down a national hero

The Cordoba Open, a 250 ATP clay court event played at the Polo Deportivo Kempes stadium in the capital city of Cordoba province, Argentina, attracts a strong home field and is the start of a three week series of events in South America.
And the Argentine qualifier Roman Andres Burruchaga has made the most of his opportunity when he defeated his countryman, former top-tenner and national icon, Diego Schwartzman over three sets.
Burruchaga failed to convert three match points but recovered to claim a 6-1 4-6 6-4 victory on his fourth following a series of unforced errors by the 31-year-old Schwartzman.
“I’m really happy with my victory here in Cordoba,” Burruchaga said. “It was a tough match against a great player like Diego. I was a little bit nervous at the end of the match but fortunately I won.”
The 22-year-old is at a career-high of. 170 in world terms after reaching the semi-finals of last week’s Punta del Este Challenger in Uruguay.
Earlier fellow Argentine Federico Coria, last year’s runner-up, upset fifth-seeded world No. 52, Germany’s Daniel Altmaier 5-7 6-, 6-4.
Meanwhile another German, the seventh-seeded Yannick Hanfmann had a better result, rallying from a set and 1-4 down to defeat Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas, 5-7 7-6(1) 6-1.
Hanfmann and Burruchaga are set to meet on for a place in the quarter finals.
