After finishing 10th in the West last season with a record of 46-36, the Warriors had to compete in the play-in tournament for a chance to make the postseason. Unfortunately, they lost to the Kings and did not make the playoffs. As Golden State heads into the offseason, they find themselves at a pivotal crossroads.
Rumors are swirling that all-star SG Klay Thompson could be leaving in free agency. Additionally, reports have surfaced that the Warriors may be looking to trade Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins, who has been with the team for the past five seasons, struggled to find a consistent role last season, leading to speculation that it may be time for the Warriors to move on.

During the 2019-20 trade deadline, the Warriors acquired Andrew Wiggins from the Timberwolves in a trade that involved D’Angelo Russell, Jacob Evans III, Omari Spellman, and draft picks. Wiggins was a key scoring option for the Warriors alongside Steph Curry. He was part of the championship-winning team in 2022 that defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.
In the following seasons, Wiggins struggled to maintain a consistent role with the team. In 2023-24, he played in only 37 games, averaging career-low numbers in points, assists, and minutes per game. Meanwhile, forward Jonathan Kuminga saw increased playing time and became a starter for the team.

The Warriors had the fourth-oldest and most expensive roster in the league last season. With changes needed, GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. has expressed that the team is exploring all options this offseason. Parting ways with Andrew Wiggins could be a move that benefits the Warriors, given his decline in performance since his all-star season. Free agency begins on June 30th, presenting an opportunity for the Warriors to potentially trade Wiggins.
