Cowboys Have Reportedly Made A Decision On Mike McCarthy’s Future

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has his team on the cusp of an NFC East title and, potentially, the No. 1 seed in the conference.

The Cowboys are 10-3, are on a five-game winning streak with the No. 1 offense in the NFL and are led by an MVP contender in quarterback Dak Prescott.

So when the season ends, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will have a big decision to make about his head coach.

Although McCarthy’s contract isn’t up until after the 2024 season, Jones reportedly told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that they’ve discussed extending McCarthy after this season.

McCarthy has had a very solid four-year tenure since he joined the Cowboys in 2020.

He’s won 63.5 percent of his games and has coached three consecutive winning seasons.

The Cowboys offenses have also ranked top-eight in points scored and top-11 in yards over the past three seasons.

However, he has just one playoff win over that span.

McCarthy’s immediate future is coaching the Cowboys to the playoffs, but a deep postseason run could mean more security for him, especially if he can deliver Dallas’ first Super Bowl title since the 1995-96 season.

Before that, though, the Cowboys have to play their final four games.

If Dallas beats the Buffalo Bills in Week 15, they’ll clinch a spot in the playoffs.

The Cowboys can secure the NFC East if they keep winning, but would need the San Francisco 49ers to lose at least one game over the final month if Dallas wants the first-round playoff bye and home field advantage throughout the postseason.
