Cristiano Ronaldo has criticized Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag for suggesting that the club is not capable of competing for the Premier League and the Champions League.
Ronaldo and Ten Hag had a falling out in late 2022, culminating in a controversial interview the five-time Ballon d’Or winner gave to Piers Morgan.
In the interview, Ronaldo accused Ten Hag of disrespect and attempting to push him out of United. He also criticized his teammates and the management at Old Trafford.
As a result, United terminated Ronaldo’s contract, and he subsequently joined Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Last week, Ronaldo appeared to indirectly reference Ten Hag, suggesting that only a few coaches had mistreated him throughout his successful career.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s Five YouTube channel, Ronaldo has now rebuked Ten Hag for his previous statement that United were far from challenging for major trophies.
Ronaldo expressed his belief that under Ruud van Nistelrooy’s guidance at United, the team stands a better chance of improving their Premier League standing this season.
Ronaldo emphasized the importance of having individuals with football experience and knowledge involved in the club’s decision-making process to drive positive change.
Despite the controversial end to his second stint at United, Ronaldo stated that he still holds love for the club and wishes them success in their endeavors going forward.
He also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing changes at the club, including investments in the training ground.
