Crystal Palace secured a historic league double over Manchester United for the first time in club history, with American defender Chris Richards making a significant contribution to the victory.
Richards played the full 90 minutes and provided an assist as the Eagles convincingly defeated the Red Devils 4-0 at Selhurst Park. This win marked their largest shutout victory of the season under the guidance of manager Oliver Glasner.
Following Michael Olise’s early goal in the 12th minute, Richards’ well-placed pass set up Jean-Philippe Mateta to double the lead before halftime. Mateta showed great skill inside the Manchester United box before firing a powerful shot past Andre Onana.
This assist by Richards was his first in the Premier League.
Tyrick Mitchell added a third goal for Crystal Palace in the 58th minute, and Olise completed his brace just eight minutes later to secure a commanding 4-0 lead.
Richards impressed with a perfect record in duels, two interceptions, and six recoveries as Crystal Palace climbed to 14th place in the league standings.
With upcoming matches against Wolves and Aston Villa, coupled with results from other games, Crystal Palace have a chance to finish in the top half of the Premier League table. Richards, who is eager to feature for the USMNT this summer, will be looking to end his second season at the club on a positive note.
