The Dallas Cowboys’ wide receiver room outside of CeeDee Lamb has been unexceptional so far this season, and it has largely contributed to the team’s up-and-down 2-2 start.
That room is about to take a big hit as No. 2 receiver Brandin Cooks is out for Sunday’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and according to a recent report, it’s about to be much longer than that.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared on X that the Cowboys have decided to place Cooks on injured reserve due to his knee injury, so he is out for at least the next four games.

This is obviously a tough blow for the Cowboys and will undoubtedly add fuel to the fire given Davante Adams’ availability on the trade market, but the focus now shifts in-house to the other receivers already on the roster.
Someone needs to step up in Cooks’ absence, and the first man in line will be Jalen Tolbert, who has already taken a nice step forward this season with 13 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Kavontae Turpin should see a larger role as well, and in Cooks’ place on Sunday will be sixth-round rookie Ryan Flournoy making his NFL debut after an exciting preseason that gave Cowboys fans a glimpse into the type of talent he could be.
Cooks wasn’t having a great start to the season, but his presence will be missed and it will be interesting to see if Flournoy or somebody else can inject a shot of adrenaline into this offense.
