Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, the New York Giants were seriously looking into bringing in a talented young quarterback at the top of the draft, with many viable options at the position that could be had at No. 6 overall.

However, the team was not able to trade up to get who they wanted at quarterback, so the Giants brass chose to pivot and upgrade the receiving corps instead of bringing a new leader under center that they could develop.

Ultimately, the Giants drafted wide receiver Malik Nabers out of LSU, which was a solid pick, but not a player that can flourish without a quarterback that can get him the ball consistently and move the chains.

Veteran Daniel Jones hasn’t lived up to expectations during his time with the Giants, taking over for two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning, and now he could be benched early in the season if he can’t turn things around.

Jones had a poor performance on Sunday, as he could not get the offense going and talked about the loss after the game.

“Obviously, we expected to play much better than we did today. A lot of things we didn’t do well. I thought we had a good week of preparation and a good training camp,” Jones said.

With the Giants intent on building around Nabers and already looking at making a change at quarterback before the season started, Jones might not have the starting job for much longer.

Head coach Brian Daboll could be coaching for his job this year, so he likely won’t have much patience with Jones if he can’t prove his worth to the team in the first few weeks of the season.
