The long and excruciating wait for American forward Daryl Dike looks to be coming to its end.
Dike is continuing his training ahead of a potential season debut for West Bromwich Albion this month, manager Carlos Corberan said to media Monday. The U.S. men’s national team forward had been sidelined since March due to an Achilles injury, but returned to club training in early-November.
Dike scored seven goals last season before suffering his injury, showing his potential as a leading attacker for the Baggies. Corberan hasn’t announced an official debut date for Dike this winter, but is pleased with his hard work in getting back to 100%.
“Dike is working well and keeping to the plan,” said Corberan. “If he keeps progressing well, he will be one of the options in the squad at the end of December.”
Dike joined West Brom in December 2021, but has been reduced to only 27 combined appearances due to respective injuries. The former Orlando City draft pick could be a crucial returnee for the Baggies, who are fighting to earn promotion back to the English Premier League.
A 2-1 home loss to Leicester City last weekend dropped the Baggies to fifth place in the EFL Championship table, kicking off a busy stretch of matches in league play. Home matches against Norwich City and Leeds United will close out the 2023 schedule for West Brom before a trip to Swansea City kicks off the new year.
