Daryl Morey Anticipates Significant Changes for Sixers Beyond Embiid, Maxey, and Nurse

Daryl Morey: Sixers Will Have Lots Of Changes Beyond Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Nick Nurse

The Philadelphia 76ers are poised for significant changes to their roster next season, with approximately $65 million in cap space heading into the 2024 offseason. Aside from Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and head coach Nick Nurse, the Sixers could see a lot of new faces.

“We’re not looking at continuity,” stated Morey during a press conference at the 76ers’ headquarters in New Jersey on Monday. “While we will maintain consistency with our stars and head coach, we anticipate numerous changes this upcoming season.”

With Embiid on the court, the Sixers were winning at a pace equivalent to 65 wins, but without him, they struggled with a record of 16-27.

“I believe I could have better prepared the team to perform at a higher level when Embiid was absent,” Morey admitted. “However, our primary focus remains on strategizing to win a championship with him. The emphasis shouldn’t be on how we play without him, as we understand that a team lacking him cannot secure a championship. Our focus is on managing the situation more effectively. I take responsibility for the lack of depth in the team when he was out, which hindered our ability to win at the desired level.”
