There was a time when it seemed ludicrous to even suggest that wide receiver Davante Adams could leave the Green Bay Packers.
In his eight seasons with them, they reached the NFC Championship Game four times and had a setup that was the envy of many other teams in the NFL.
But then came Adams’ stunning trade to the Las Vegas Raiders prior to the 2022 season, and just like that, an era in Green Bay started to come to an end.
While on “All Facts No Brakes,” Adams said money was a big factor in his departure.
“They said we’ll give you 17 (million) a year. I said, click, nothing to talk about,” Adams said.
Once Adams became a member of the Raiders, they gave him a five-year, $140 million deal, which at $28 million per year is significantly more than he said the Packers offered him.
His trade to Las Vegas came one offseason before Green Bay traded quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Right now, the Packers have one of the most promising young teams in football and a potential new star quarterback in Jordan Love, so perhaps everything has gotten sorted out for them.
However, in Las Vegas, Adams is on a roster that simply doesn’t have the talent around him to be competitive.
The Raiders have won a combined 14 games in two seasons with him, and moving forward, they don’t seem to have a quarterback who is anywhere comparable to Rodgers.
Aidan O’Connell, who had a disappointing rookie season in 2023, and Gardner Minshew II, who is seen as mostly a career backup, are battling for the QB1 spot, and the Raiders, in all likelihood, will miss the playoffs again this coming season.
