Alex de Minaur added his name to the winners’ circle once again, beating Sebastian Korda in the final of the 2024 Libema Open.
In 2021, the Australian player proved that he can play well on grass, winning a title in Eastbourne. Last year, he reminded everyone how well he can play on the green surface, reaching the final at the Queen’s Club.
This year, he also started his grass-court season well, entering the 2024 Libema Open, which is an ATP 250 tournament in Den Bosch, as the top seed, and making it all the way to the final, after beating Zizou Bergs, Milos Raonic, and Ugo Humbert, he took on Korda.
The American had a good run himself, beating Tristan Schoolkate, Luca Nardi, Tommy Paul, and Tallon Griekspoor, but in the final, he was just not good enough to challenge the top seed.
De Minaur was just the better player from start to finish. Early on, in all of the opening five games, both players held their serve to 30, showing that they could do damage on return.
However, in the sixth game, the Australian applied pressure on his opponent, breaking to love, and after confirming the break with a hold of serve, he added one more to win the first set 6-2.
The second set was much more eventful with plenty of break points on offer. De Minaur broke first, but Korda returned the favor immediately in the following game.
The American then lost his serve again, and he wasn’t able to use any of his following four break points, just to face two match points on his serve in the following game.
Korda was able to save those match points and stayed in the match by breaking his opponent in the following game. However, De Minaur once again broke his opponent’s serve in the following game once again to win the second set and the match, 6-2, 6-4, winning the 2024 Libema Open.
