Delray Beach: Ruud Triumphs in Comeback Win as Cobolli Unveils New Tattoo

Casper Ruud has recently entered the tennis scene with a fresh perspective, one deeply influenced by the birth of his daughter. His arrival at the Delray Beach Open marked not only a significant personal milestone as a new father but also his return to competitive play. In a press conference, Ruud shared how parenthood has reshaped his outlook on life and his professional obligations.

“It was a profoundly emotional moment,” Ruud reflected on his daughter’s birth. “For anyone who becomes a parent, there’s a unique feeling that is hard to convey in words.” He went on to express his enthusiasm for the future, noting the long journey of parenthood ahead. “This is just the start of 20 to 25 years of taking care of her. It’s fun and exciting, and I aim to channel this new motivation into my game.”

Ruud, seeded second in the ATP 250 event, began his tournament with a first-round bye. In his opening match against American Marcos Giron, he faced a true test of his resolve. After dropping the first set 4-6, he rallied back to secure the match with a score of 7-6(6), 6-4, triumphing after nearly losing in a tense tiebreaker in the second set that saw him two points away from defeat.

This hard-fought victory propelled Ruud into the quarter-finals, where he will face Sebastian Korda, who earned his spot by overcoming fellow American Alex Michelsen in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6(6).

On a different note, Flavio Cobolli showcased not only his tennis skills but also an intriguing new tattoo during the tournament. The third seed revealed a tattoo of The Hulk on his right leg as a tribute to his memorable performance in last year’s Davis Cup, where he saved seven match points to lead Italy to victory. “In Davis Cup, I felt like Hulk on the court, so now I have to embody that spirit,” Cobolli commented during his post-match interview after defeating Terence Atmane 7-5, 6-4.

Cobolli expressed his delight at securing his first win of the year. “It’s great to be competing in this fantastic tournament. I trained well and felt comfortable on the court,” he said, reflecting on his growth since their last encounter in Cincinnati.

Also making it through to the quarters is fifth seed Tommy Paul, who came back from a set down to beat Australia’s Adam Walton 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

As the Delray Beach Open progresses, the anticipation builds for the exciting matches ahead, especially with players bringing not only their skills but also personal stories that resonate beyond the court.
