DeMarcus Cousins Criticizes Rudy Gobert’s Defense Before DPOY Announcement

DeMarcus Cousins argues that despite being a potential four-time Defensive Player of the Year, Rudy Gobert does not contribute to closing out games for the Timberwolves.

Cousins believes that the best defender on the best defensive team should never be off the floor, questioning how Gobert continues to win the award despite struggling in the playoffs.

Gobert, a three-time DPOY winner, is favored to win again this year, but Domantas Sabonis led in rebounds per game and Victor Wembanyama is seen as a more deserving candidate according to Cousins.

Wembanyama led the league in shot blocking with an average of 3.6 blocks per game, standing out on a struggling defensive team.

Despite Gobert’s lower stats in certain categories, the Timberwolves were the best defensive team in the league during the regular season.
