Denver Broncos’ NFL Draft Picks: What to Expect

What Picks Do the Broncos Have in the NFL Draft?

The first season of the Sean Payton regime with the Denver Broncos ended up being the last one of the Russell Wilson era. Denver missed the playoffs at 8-9 and decided to part ways with Wilson following the season, releasing him and handing him a substantial severance check on his way out the door.

Now in full-on rebuild mode, the Broncos at least have a 2024 NFL Draft full of picks to look forward to.

How Many Draft Picks Do the Broncos Have in the 2024 NFL Draft?

A series of trades leave the Broncos with eight selections in the 2024 NFL Draft, retaining just three of its original picks in the first round (pick 12), third round (pick 76), and fifth round (147).

Denver’s original second-round pick went in a trade with the New Orleans Saints for HC Sean Payton. The Broncos also sent their 2023 first-round pick, while receiving a 2024 third-round pick back from the Saints. Denver traded the third-rounder it received (pick 81) and a 2023 fourth-rounder (pick 108) to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2023 third-rounder (pick 83).

In a trade to acquire OLB Jacob Martin from the New York Jets at the deadline in 2022, the Broncos gave up its original 2024 fourth-rounder (pick 113), with the Jets also sending a 2024 fifth-rounder (145) to Denver.

The Broncos picked up a fourth-rounder (121) from the Miami Dolphins as part of the package it received for OLB Bradley Chubb. On top of pick 121, the Broncos received RB Chase Edmonds and a 2023 first-rounder for Chubb and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

For trading Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, the Broncos picked up a fifth (pick 136) and a sixth-rounder (pick 203). The sixth-rounder was initially received by Cleveland as part of the deal it struck with the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson.

Around the 2023 draft, Denver sent a 2024 seventh-round pick (239) to New Orleans for K Wil Lutz. Denver acquired the pick and LB Kenny Young three years ago in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams for a 2024 sixth-rounder (189).

The Broncos acquired QB Zach Wilson just three days ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, in a late-round pick swap with the New York Jets. Denver sent a sixth-round pick (203) in exchange for a seventh-round pick (256) and Wilson from New York.

Who Did the Broncos Draft in 2023?

Denver parted with its original 2023 first-rounder (pick 5) and second-rounder (pick 37) as part of the massive package it sent to the Seattle Seahawks for QB Russell Wilson — two first-round picks (2022, 2023), two second-round picks (2022, 2023), a 2022 fifth-rounder, QB Drew Lock, DT Shelby Harris, and TE Noah Fant. The Broncos also received a 2022 fourth-rounder from Seattle in the trade.

Denver then received a first-rounder (pick 29) from the Dolphins as part of the deal for Chubb, but that pick was then sent to the Saints in the package for Payton.

Finally picking late in the second round, the Broncos selected Oklahoma WR Marvin Mims Jr. at pick 63. As a rookie, Mims caught 22 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown in 16 games, with seven starts.

Four picks later, in the third round, Denver took LB Drew Sanders at pick 67. Sanders made 17 appearances with four starts, registering 24 tackles. Denver then used a second pick in Round 3 on defense, selecting CB Riley Moss, who made six tackles in 14 appearances as a rookie.

In the sixth round at 183, the Broncos picked up Boise State safety JL Skinner before grabbing Oregon C Alex Forsyth in the seventh at 257. Neither player registered any stats after playing sparingly as rookies last year.
