During the 2023-24 season, the Boston Celtics dominated as the best team in the regular season and continued their success in the postseason, finishing with a 16-3 record on their way to winning the NBA Finals. The Celtics boasted one of the top starting lineups in the NBA, with Derrick White being an underrated player in that lineup.

Throughout the playoff run, White emerged as a reliable player for the Celtics, especially when the superstars were not performing at their best. He averaged 16.7 points per game, the third highest for Boston in the 2024 playoffs. Today, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski announced that White has signed a four-year, $125.9 million extension with the Celtics, recognizing his valuable contributions to the team.

Derrick White Signs Four-Year, $125.9 Million Extension with the Celtics

In the beginning of his professional career, White was selected as the 29th pick by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2017 NBA draft from Colorado. After playing under Gregg Popovich, he was traded to the Celtics in the 2021-22 season. White’s arrival in Boston helped lead the team to the NBA Finals, although they ultimately fell short against the Warriors.

In the following seasons, White excelled with the Celtics, earning recognition as All-Defensive second-team and consistently delivering impressive performances. He averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game in the 2023-24 season, solidifying his value to the team. His defensive prowess also earned him a place in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.

Following their championship victory, the Celtics secured White’s future with a four-year, $125.9 million extension, the maximum allowed by the team. Fans are thrilled to see White continue with the team for the next four seasons as they aim to defend their title and pursue back-to-back championships.
