Gabby DeGasperis isn’t like any other golf social-media star. She’s 16 years old, posting about trick shots, swing tips and playing in tournaments, and has 455,000 Instagram followers. That’s more than four of the top 10 male players in the world and more than eight of the top 10 female players in the world.
She’s creating a new space, which she inhabits alone at the moment, that may prove beneficial as golf continues to grow.
In 2024, the National Golf Foundation reported a 40 percent increase in junior golfers since 2018. Young people are on social media. It’s fair to assume that seeing someone young making golf look fun and cool, as DeGasperis does, can only help that number grow, and help retain those youngsters who have just started the game.
DeGasperis started posting regularly on her Instagram two years ago. Her strength coach was able to amass 50,000 Instagram followers in two months. DeGasperis’ interest was piqued. She wanted to see if she could do it, too.
