Djokovic Addresses Injury Scare With Days Left To Australian Open Title Defense

Novak Djokovic has dealt with a few wrist problems recently, and the most recent one flared up during this year’s United Cup.

Djokovic has an interesting relationship with injuries. We’ve seen the Serbian deal with an injury that seemed impossible to overcome quite a few times, but he’d do it.

Even last year at the Australian Open, Djokovic dealt with an abdominal tear, which apparently didn’t bother him a bit. This year’s Australian Open might see him deal with a wrist injury that flared up out of nowhere.

He looked fine during the first United Cup tie, but then before the second, he felt something during the warm-up. Eventually, he won the match but pulled out of the doubles, which has some of his fans worried.

After the tie, which was sealed by mixed doubles duo Hamad Medjedovic and Olga Danilovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion addressed the injury.

I hope not, but yeah, it happened in the warmup today before the match. I basically got constant treatment before the match, during the match, after the match, you know, trying to address the issue that I’m facing today in the best possible way.

He’s dealt with wrist injuries in the past, and while it didn’t really stop him from playing, it did kind of impact his level. That can be troublesome for the Australian Open, where he’ll have to battle many great players, and not being 100% could be devastating.

I mean, it’s not the first time that I have faced these kind of circumstances at such a high level of professional tennis. I know professional sport in general, these things happen. I think it’s not a major concern, because I still managed to finish the match and managed to play well, even though I maybe wasn’t feeling 100%, but still, you know, it allowed me to finish the match.

It’s great to hear him not being too concerned with it, but it’s not ideal. Ideally, he’d like to be 100%, and ultimately he said ‘hopefully’ about being ready for another match, which tells you all you need to know.

Hopefully I’ll have enough time to recover for tomorrow’s tie against Australia that is in the afternoon hours, so, you know, more time for us.
