Djokovic ‘Always Ends Up With Vajda When Something Like This Happens’ Says Roddick

Andy Roddick chimed in on Novak Djokovic’s coaching situation, throwing in the name of Marian Vajda as a potential new-old coach.

Djokovic recently stunned the tennis world by letting go of his longtime coach, Goran Ivanisevic. There have been some bumps in the road recently for the Serbian, but nobody really expected that he would let go of his coach who coached him to nine Grand Slams in the past five years.

Djokovic was asked by media about the decision but he refused to really comment on it, simply saying that they parted ways on good terms and remain friends. Former ATP player Andy Roddick talked about the situation on the Tennis Channel, admitting that he could see coach Vajda returning.

“It seems like he always kind of ends back up with Vajda when something like this happens. That’s happened a couple of times. It’d be hard for me to think someone 37 years old goes with an entirely new scenario, goes through the vetting process, gets to know someone.”

There is some merit to what Roddick says because the last time Djokovic let go of a coach not named Marian Vajda was when he let go of Boris Becker. He then ended up with his old coach, Vajda, for a while before bringing on Goran Ivanisevic.

“You’re on a shortish timeline going into Roland-Garros, so my instinct is that he goes back into something that is known, that is familiar. I’d be surprised if six to eight weeks out from Roland-Garros, he just starts an entirely new relationship. But I’ve been wrong before, I’ll be wrong again, but I’d be surprised if it was someone completely new.”

For what it matters, Djokovic was spotted practicing under the watchful eye of former doubles number one Nenad Zimonjic, who could be one of the people that could take over Ivanisevic’s role.
