Djokovic and Alcaraz Could Meet in Monte-Carlo Semis

By Chris Oddo | @TheFanChild | Friday April 5, 2024

The first Masters 1000 draw of the clay court season is upon us, as Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev have all taken thor place in the 56-player table.

See the full draw here:

AT the top of the table, Djokovic will begin his bid for a second title – the 24-time major champion will face either Roman Safiullin or a qualifier after his first-round bye.

Djokovic is slated to face either 13th-seeded Taylor Fritz or Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 16, if the seeds hold, and his potential quarterfinal opponent is No.6-seeded Andrey Rublev.

Third-seeded Alcaraz has been drawn into Djokovic’s half. The Spaniard, who has an 0-1 lifetime record at Monte-Carlo, will face either Felix Auger-Aliassime or a qualifier in his first match, followed by a potential clash with No.14-seeded Ugo Humbert (if seeds hold) and a quarterfinal clash with No.8-seeded Casper Ruud.

On the lower half of the draw, Sinner will race either Alejandro Davidovich Fokina or Sebastian Korda in the second round. The Italian could face No.7-seeded Holger Rune in the quarterfinals (if the seeds hold), and No.4-seeded Daniil Medvedev or No.5-seeded Alexander Zverev in the semis.

Sinner reached the semifinals last year in Monte-Carlo.

11-time Monte-Carlo champion Rafael Nadal pulled out of the event on Thursday. Rublev is the defending champ in Monte-Carlos, while two-time champion Stefanos Tsitsipas and 2014 champ Stan Wawrinka are among former champions in the draw (along with 2015 champion Djokovic).
